Effect of Tube Bundle Arrangement on the Performance of PCM Heat Storage Units

The results of a comprehensive study on the charging and discharging latent heat storage systems (LHSS) are presented. Multi-tube shell-and-tube units with variable layouts tube bundles examined. Two arrangements—in-line staggered—are tested. A number tubes different positions in bundle investigated. Moreover, two pitch ratios studied. Three commercially available substances used as phase change materials (PCM). show that increasing reduces both times. It is found for seven ratio s/d = 4.5, in-line arrangement shorter time, but time staggered arrangement.
